Our History

1959

Our Founding

Drives, Inc. begins operations in December of 1959 in Fulton, Illinois. We first manufactured steel, detachable chain used for driving mechanisms such as elevators, spreaders and other farm machinery.

1963

Butler Building

In need of more production space, Drives, Inc. announces a plan to double floor space of the manufacturing plant.

1965

Drives, Inc. completes 20,000 square foot expansion of industrial plant and adds a secondary building. With this new space, we more than doubled our employee count from 60 to 155 employees and increased the number of Helicoid auger mills from 1 to 5 in support of growing business with agricultural OEMs.

1968

Innovation And Preparation

The installation of a variable speed machine that can fill as many as 4,300 sandbags an hour is installed in the Fulton industrial plant. The innovative machine was built to reduce employee time spent filling sandbags during flood threats that will be used at emergency sites along the river.

1974

Drives, Inc. expands corporate office with the purchase of a modern office building and plans additional expansion of the industrial plant. After completion of the plant expansion, there will be 180,000 square feet of work space.

1989

Growth in the Auger Industry

Our auger business continues to flourish with the addition of a new process – mounting raw flighting onto shafts for agricultural OEMs.

1996

Expanding our capabilities to meet the demands of the agricultural market, we started to manufacture and mount sectionals for heavier duty augers.

1998

Drives added manufacturing processes to improve performance within our auger line, now offering dynamically balanced augers and augers with hard faced outer edges.

2003

To fulfill a need for larger chain for the oil and gas, mining, and construction industries, Drives invests in a new, large press that has the capability to stamp larger chain. The machine installed is a 400-ton stamping press capable of stamping up to 150 strokes per minute in progressive drives from 3/8 inch thick coils of high carbon steel.

2011

Timken Company acquires Drives® LLC, extending the Timken portfolio by broadening its offerings to process industry customers. This purchase - along with the acquisition of Philadelphia Gear and QM Bearings - further increases the breadth of the company's mechanical power transmission product offering and moves the company well beyond its original focus on bearings.
